Liverpool performed extraordinarily in the match against Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League match which was played at 1:30 AM (IST) of Friday and with the performance managed to make a comeback in the top 4 and within 4 points of the Premier League leaders Manchester City with 3 points in north London.

After the win on Friday against Tottenham with final score 3-1, Jurgen Klopp said his side “showed who we are”.

Three players from Klopp’s side scored their first league goals for the year 2021 – Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane.

With the win, Liverpool also recovered from their back-to-back defeats against Burnley and the Manchester United and what a style they did it in, however, there were yet more injury worries in defence.

Speaking with BT Sport, Klopp said, “We scored goals in the right moments, wonderful goals,” and added, “The right people scored the goals. All good, apart from obviously Joel Matip had to go off.”

He also said, “What I saw today was not about form, it’s… who we are. That’s us. Today, the second half especially, was us. It was a massive fight and football on top of that.

“I don’t know the numbers but I think apart from a few minutes in the first half, I don’t remember them having a lot of the ball. It was always pretty quick and counter-attacking and we defender really well.

“It was just a good performance and I saw a lot of things I wanted to see.”

Talking about the attacking power he said, “Offensively, the way we played, I thought we coped really well with their formation.

“Played around, played in between, so we were so often in and around the box which is really important. The counter-press was really good. The last line defended really well; high enough but not crazy high.”

The game began frantically as Mane missed an early chance in the game before Son Heung-min found the back of the net in a similar opportunity, however, VAR rule the goal out citing offside.

Firmino opened the scoring with the last kick of the first half of the game with Mane’s assist. Almost immediately Alexander-Arnold doubled the lead after the game restart with a powerful finish, however, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Tottenham pulled a goal back with a stunning half-volley within two minutes.

Mohamed Salah saw a fine goal of his own but this too was ruled-out as VAR spotted a Firmino handball in the build-up, however, Mane came to the rescue and smashed a shot into the top corner restoring the two-goal lead.

With this, the team came 4 points clear of Spurs, though Jose Mourinho’s side does also have a game in hand, the result provides a mental boost for the team in Red ahead of a huge run of fixtures and following a double injury setback.
