The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin on the 19th of September 2020 with the opening match to be played between the defending champion Mumbai Indians and IPL 2019’s runner up Chenna Super Kings.
The former Australian pacer Brett Lee put on his predictor’s hat and has picked the winner of IPL 2020. In an Instagram question and answer round, Brett Lee picked M S Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings as the winner of the 13th edition of IPL which will be played in the United Aram Emirates (UAE).
Lee who recently landed in Mumbai to be a part of the IPL Coverage for the host broadcasters is currently under isolation. The 43 year old former pacer who was known as one of the fastest bowlers during his time decided to engage in a Question and Asnwer session with his fans on Instagram.
Among several questions pertaining to both on and off the field, Lee was asked by a fan to name the possible champions of IPL 2020. Lee replied with: “Hard to say but let’s go with CSK.”
The Chennai based IPL franchise has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. 13 people from the squad had tested positive for the novel Coronavirus which delayed their training sessions in Dubai.
After this, two of its senior players, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, decided to pull out of the cash enriched tournament citing personal reasons.
However, The team’s management has faith in the existing squad and are yet to name a replacement for either Raina and Singh.
With the squad being led by one of India’s most successful captains and a three-time IPL winner M S Dhoni, CSK sure start as one of the favourites of the tournament.
Lee who had also played for Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL over the years has high hopes from the latter. When a fan, during the Q&A session on Instagram, asked him about the KKR’s new costly recruit Pat Cummins, Lee said that he is a “World Class” player.
Lee, wearing his predictor’s hat, also named the franchise which will definitely play this year’s play-off in the IPL.
Lee wrote, “Definitely on the cards for KKR to be in the final 4,” a side which has won IPL twice in the past 12 seasons.
KKR which is being led by Dinesh Karthik will begin their IPL 2020 campaign on the 23rd of September in Abu Dhabi when they will face Mumbai Indians, the four time IPL winners.
This is the first time an entire IPL will be staged outside India and in UAE – UAE had earlier hosted part of IPL during general elections in India – as it was moved out of the country due to the pandemic situation and constant rise in COVID-19 cases.
Brett Lee was also asked “Who is the toughest batsman to bowl?” to which the bowler replied, Sachin & Lara”.
