On Tuesday, Arsenal revealed that they had signed Italian midfielder Jorginho from London rivals Chelsea to an 18-month agreement.
Although the transfer’s specifics haven’t been made public, the British media is claiming that the deal is close to 12 million pounds. Moises Caicedo, a midfielder for Brighton and Hove Albion, was an interest for Arsenal, but the Seagulls rejected two bids from the Gunners and chose to keep the Ecuadorian at the club.
Arsenal had to consider other options as a result, and Jorginho was chosen in the end. The Italian midfielder won the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup while playing for Chelsea.
He has made 46 appearances for his country and was a member of the Italy team that won the Euro 2020 competition.
Edu, the sporting director at Arsenal, described the 31-year-old as an established professional with a strong mentality. Jorginho, according to Edu, fits their playing style.
“Jorginho is an established professional with a strong mentality who brings quality and experience into our squad. ”
Edu added, “He is a player who fits our style of play, and he joins us at a very good moment where he can contribute in a key position to help maintain our momentum. We welcome Jorginho to Arsenal.”
The Italian is a midfielder with intelligence, strong leadership qualities, and a tonne of experience, according to Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal.
“Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.
“We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club,” added Arteta.
Jorginho will don the club’s No. 20 jersey.
