Bhagwani Devi, an Indian athlete who is 94 years old, took first place in the international senior sports championships in Finland following in the footsteps of the illustrious Shooter Dadis Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar. In 24.74 seconds, the seasoned Haryanan athlete won the 100-meter race. She subsequently won a bronze medal in the discus throw competition and then added a second bronze in the shot put competition. The World Masters Athletics Championships, a competition for athletes over 35, took place in Tampere from June 29 to July 10. The competitors are separated into five-year age groups for the competition.

Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar lauded her on accomplishing such a huge feat. He said that her passion will serve as a fuel to today’s younger generation and that if the will power is strong enough then age is never a barrier. She also garnered praises from the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Bhagwani Devi Dagar hails from a sports family. Her grandson Vikas Dagar is an international para-athlete, and their never-say-die mentality drives them to continue winning medals for their nation. Vikas has travelled to Finland with his grandmother.

She also won three gold medals at the Delhi State Athletic Championships in the 100-meter dash, javelin throw, and shot put events previous to the competition in Chennai.

M.J. Jacob, a senior Indian athlete and former Kerala state legislator, won two bronze medals in the World Masters Athletics Championships as well.

The senior CPM party leader from Piravom won medals in the 200-meter hurdles and 80-meter hurdles events in the M80 division, which was open to competitors between the ages of 80 and 84.

At the earlier in the year held Kerala State Masters Athletics, Jacob also won gold in the 200-meter and 80-meter hurdle events. At the Asian Masters Athletics Championships, the 82-year-old also won the gold medal.

Athletes may perform such amazing athletic achievements at such late ages, proving that there is no upper age limit as long as they put in the necessary training, lead a healthy lifestyle, exercise frequently, and stick to their fitness regimens.
