ICC T20 World Cup: England Hands Defeat To Bangladesh In Super 12 Stage By 8 Wickets

Highlights:

  • England registers win in ICC T20 World Cup as they defeat Bangladesh by 8 wickets
  • Bangladesh experience their 2nd defeat in the Super 12 of ICC T20 Worlds Cup at Abu Dhabi
  • Jason Roy smashed a half-century showing his best in the match
  • England currently top Group 1 with two wins from two games

In what was the 20th match in the ICC T20 World Cup, England’s Jason Roy showed his prowess, on Wednesday, against Bangladesh. The opener lit the stadium as he smashed a half-century to help the Three Lions register the win by eight wickets in Abu Dhabi.

Chasing a humble target of 125 runs, Roy played a knock of 61 from 38 deliveries as England raced to 126 for a loss of 2 wickets in just 14.1 overs (35 balls left to spare).

Fans took to social media to praise the in-form batsman and even the tournament’s official social media handles paid tribute to his innings.

On the third ball of the 7th over, the 31-year-old launched the Mahedi Hasan delivery over long-on for a maximum. Although the shot was majestic, Bangladesh’s Mohammad Naim put in a diving effort near the ropes but could not catch it.

The official Instagram account of the T20 World Cup posted a video of the six and also showed a fan in the video sitting on top of a dinosaur-like stuffed figure. The video was captioned as, “A Jurassic six from Jason Roy”.

This was Roy’s seventh half-century in the shortest format of the game, however, he has yet to register a ton in T20 International.

When England were on the field, Tymal Mills showed excellent form and took three wickets in four overs giving away just 27 runs.

Meanwhile, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone registered two dismissals each after bowling 3 overs.

After the win, the Eoin Morgan-led side now sits on the top of Group 1 with two wins from two games.

Bangladesh sits at 5th position in the six-team table with two defeats.
