Virat’s 100th Test match is the first of the two-match India-Sri Lanka Test series. A total of 13,300 tickets sold out till Thursday evening and the stadium witnessed a full 50% capacity adhering to Covid guidelines.

Saroj Kohli, Virat’s mother, Anushka Sharma, his wife, and Vamika, observe the historic Test match.

Kohli joins an elite list of batters who achieved this feat including legends like Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virender Sehwag.

In January, Kohli had stepped down as India’s Test captain after leading the Men in Blue for seven years. He paved Team India’s way to the top of the test rankings and made it to the finale of the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021.

India ended a 71-year drought in Australia when they won a maiden series in 2019. They also led a 2-1 series in England in 2021 ahead of the postponement of the final Test.

‘It’s well deserved, it’s well earned’’, Dravid said to Kohli while honoring him with the 10th baggy blue.

Kohli acquired captaincy from MS Dhoni in 2014 and sealed 40 out of 68 Tests which is more than any other Indian skipper.
